Because... I love oatmeal with all my heart.
I started making my own homemade instant maple brown sugar oatmeal a few years ago in the midst of trying to find easy ways to save money. I realized I was spending twice as much buying premade servings to get half of what I could have made for less. In addition to saving money, I love a good DIY recipe and being able to customize my own instant oatmeal.
I prefer to buy the largest instant oatmeal container available and increasing my measurements accordingly. The recipe below usually lasts me 3-4 weeks.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup Instant Oatmeal, finely ground in blender or food processor1 cup Instant Oatmeal, whole
1 Cup brown sugar
1 Tablespoon maple flavoring
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine brown sugar, maple flavoring, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large bowl. Mix well to thoroughly combine the extracts with the other ingredients.Stir the finely ground and whole instant oats into the sugar mixture. Store in an airtight container.
Microwave
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1 cup of water or milk
