Homemade Instant Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal

Because... I love oatmeal with all my heart.
I started making my own homemade instant maple brown sugar oatmeal a few years ago in the midst of trying to find easy ways to save money. I realized I was spending twice as much buying premade servings to get half of what I could have made for less. In addition to saving money, I love a good DIY recipe and being able to customize my own instant oatmeal.

I prefer to buy the largest instant oatmeal container available and increasing my measurements accordingly. The recipe below usually lasts me 3-4 weeks.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup Instant Oatmeal, finely ground in blender or food processor
1 cup Instant Oatmeal, whole
1 Cup brown sugar
1 Tablespoon maple flavoring
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine brown sugar, maple flavoring, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large bowl. Mix well to thoroughly combine the extracts with the other ingredients.

Stir the finely ground and whole instant oats into the sugar mixture. Store in an airtight container.

Microwave

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup of water or milk
  1. Combine water and oats in a microwave safe container
  2. Microwave on HIGH for 1 1/2 -2 minutes; stir then serve.
