Apple Crumble

In the winter, we bake.
I'm not sure what it is, but when winter rolls around I feel the need to bake. Pies, cookies, cakes... any dessert really. Clearly, this year is no different. When I was contacted by Influenster to receive a complimentary package of Daisy Sour Cream for review, I had something completely different in mind to make. After checking out the recipes on Daisy's website, putting sour cream in dessert seemed more interesting.

When I saw the Apple Crumble recipe, I knew that was the one I needed to try because there are a few apples we needed to do some thing with before they went bad. But since we're being honest, it's really because I didn't want to drag my kid out in the cold, rainy weather to go grocery shopping.

The Daisy recipe makes 12 servings, my measurements are for 4.

INGREDIENTS

2 Cups of crisp cooking apples (I'm using Granny Smith), peeled and sliced
1/4 Cup sugar
1/8 Cup all purpose flour + 1 Tablespoon
1/3 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Pinch of nutmeg
Juice from 1/4 of a lemon
1/3 Cup rolled oats
1/4 Cup packed brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 Tablespoon butter, melted
1 Tablespoon Daisy Sour Cream

DIRECTIONS

Heat the oven to 375 degrees. Spray a shallow baking dish or casserole dish with cooking spray.

In large bowl, toss the apples with sugar, 1 tablespoon of flour, cinnamon, salt, lemon juice and nutmeg. Spoon the mixture into the baking dish.

In a medium bowl, combine rolled oats, 1/8 cup flour, brown sugar, baking soda, butter, and sour cream.

Mix until the dry ingredients are moistened. Crumble over the apples.

Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until the topping is deep golden brown and the apples are tender. If the topping is browning before apples are done, loosely cover top with square of foil.

Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
