I wanted a headboard but I didn't want to pay over $200 for it...
I have been struggling with the idea of paying more that $80 bucks for a decent headboard for years. I love GLAM but I love DIY and saving money more. That's when I got the idea to search the web for ideas and this is what I came up with. Not too bad for a girl that had no clue about tufting and upholstery.
The video explains it all and the detailed list of the products I used is listed below.

Pretty easy, right? Until we DIY again,
what is "batting"???
ReplyDeleteBatting is like a sheet of cotton that is used as padding in quilts, comforters, ottomans, couches headboards, etc :-)

DeleteQuestion, you used Foam AND batting? because Im looking at foam prices and they are sky high. Almost deterring me....What thickness of foam do you recommend? I guess im trying to make my headboard for a queen bed that is at least five feet tall above the mattress...
ReplyDeleteThe thickness really depends on what you prefer. I used a 2 inch thick piece of 10 foot foam from Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, so it ended up being about $17 bucks for me. What may be more cost effective for you maybe a block of smooth, mattress foam to cover your headboard; similar to this http://bit.ly/1b7PvlT. Hope this helps!
Deletewhats the name of the metal strip you used to screw in the board so it wouldn't move?
ReplyDeleteIt's called a mending plate. I just updated to post (under "Optional Items") with the link :-)
